Dr. Obi receives the Lifetime Achievement Award for initiating the field of digital payments.

At the 12th Beacon of ICT Distinguished (BoICT) lecture series and awards, Dr. Valentine Obi, founder XCEL, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for revolutionizing end-to-end card and digital payments.

Dr. Obi was recognized for his accomplishments to Nigeria's economy, especially in the area of electronic payments.

Generally, the BoICT Lecture series is considered as Nigeria's most prominent yearly event in the ICT sector, is meant to examine attempts to place Nigeria on the world map of information and communications technology.

Dr. Obi was honored as a top player for African technology innovation and for creating eTranzact enterprises in Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, and the United Kingdom at the event.

Dr. Obi is an outstanding techy-finance entrepreneur who is the creator and founder of XCEL, UK's newest digital banking platform that makes it easy for users to open a standard UK account.

In less than five minutes, customers can open a UK account (Sort Code, Account Number and a debit Black MasterCard) with full UK regulatory compliance of KYC and AML (Anti Money Laundering) protocols integrated.

Dr. Obi is also the architect of KYIARA, Africa's first factoring technology platform...

Kyiara offers all investors in the factoring industry a cost-effective, convenient, secure, and transparent way to conduct factoring transactions across Africa.

He has considerable expertise in the information technology field, having worked as a project director for a variety of IT projects both locally and abroad, including World Bank-assisted initiatives in several nations.

Dr. Obi was the first African to win the prestigious Computerworld Honors Gold Medal of Achievement for creative and imaginative use of information technology to generate and foster good social, economic, and educational change in San Francisco, USA, in 2003.

As a result, his work is listed in over 150 libraries throughout the world, including Harvard and other prestigious institutions.

His firm was awarded "The Most Innovative Product of the Year" by the Central Bank of Nigeria in January 2008.

Other honors include the 2012 Best Mobile Payment Initiative Award in South Africa, the 2014 LEAD Africa Mobile Payment Solution of the Year Award, and more.

Dr. Obi is a pioneer member of the Board of Regents of Covenant University and a lecturer at the Word of Faith Bible Institute, WOFBI, in addition to his passion for technology and applications.


As part of his community service, he and his wife founded the JIL Foundation to aid in the education of the less fortunate in his area of influence. He is a provincial pastor with the Living Faith Church Worldwide, a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO)/World Presidents Organization (WPO), and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Directors (IOD).
